Mortgage moratorium due to COVID-19

Conten Table

Can I request a moratorium on my mortgage due to COVID-19?

The moratorium, one of the measures to alleviate the effect of COVID-19 published in Royal Decree-Law 8/2020, of 17 March, is aimed at:

  • Households whose members become unemployed or suffer a 40% drop in sales in the case of the self-employed or small entrepreneurs.
  • Households with a monthly income of less than three times the Iprem (around 1,645 euros). This ceiling will increase for each dependent child in the household or each child over 65.
  • Households for which the mortgage payment, plus basic expenses and supplies, is more than 35% of the net income received by all the members of the family unit, or this effort has been multiplied by 1.3 as a result of the impact of the coronavirus crisis.

There is a large amount of documentation to be provided and the deadline for receiving a response from the bank is 15 days.
