The new government is keeping its word and concrete changes and labour reforms have already begun to emerge, one of the coalition’s spearheads being the changes to the Workers’ Statute.
As of next Tuesday, article 52, section D of the Workers’ Statute will be repealed. No further changes are envisaged to the other sections of the article covering dismissal on objective grounds.
After the repeal of the aforementioned section, the dismissal of a worker for having accumulated medical leave will no longer be based on objective causes. In other words, the dismissal will be considered unfair, with a corresponding increase in the number of days’ severance pay. These will go from 20 to 33 days per year worked with a maximum of 12 monthly payments.
